Modern Retreat

This pool remodel in Fulshear, TX checks so many boxes on a modern pool design wishlist — built in underwater seating, attached spa, and durable materials and finishes. 

Key Considerations

• Modern yet spacious. Pairing the spacious footprint of this project with modern design aesthetics was a fun challenge. Many modern, transitional pool construction projects are built within smaller areas — we set out to prove that modern doesn't have to be minimal.
• Heat mitigation. The current pool deck was hot. Full-day sun exposure left materials faded, worn and uncomfortable to walk on. The renovation plan needed multiple shade structures and light-colored durable pool deck and tile materials.

Homeowner Wish List

• Multiple shade structures. Covered entertainment spaces were essential in this outdoor redesign. Our clients asked for a pergola with outdoor fireplace, and an attached patio structure for outdoor dining. These spaces would offer a break from summer heat and unplanned rain.
• Relaxation everywhere. If there was an opportunity for comfortable seating, we grabbed it. Whether that was under a pergola, on the patio, in poolside deck chairs or in the pool itself, the homeowners wanted their guests to relax throughout the space.

The Finished Product

The clean, geometric layout is defined by its structure. From the twin water features in the elevated pool wall to the attached patio roof and poolside pergola, our pool builders delivered a refinished space designed to last decades.

Muted grays and tans flow throughout the remodeled pool deck, drawing all eyes to the swimming pool as a focal point. 

Guests escape the heat under the covered patio or watch TV in the poolside pergola. The pergola’s custom fire feature adds warmth on chilly or rainy evenings.

Cozy Poolside Gazebo

You don't need elegant features to elevate your existing pool area. This tranquil backyard space offers a spa, water feature and beautifully lit gazebo to complement the quaint ranch home.

Key Considerations

• Durable pool decking. A seamless patio and pool deck layout means wet feet running from pool to home, and bare feet running from home to pool. Pool deck material selection required exceptional heat resistance and moisture resistance.
• Natural design materials. A home with exposed brick facades on a property with dozens of beautiful trees deserved a renovated pool space filled with natural materials.

Homeowner Wish List

• Freeform pool design. A freeform swimming pool layout allows lots of creative freedom. Our outdoor living designer crafted a unique pool shape for these clients.
• Light and movement. A serene design space still needs visual intrigue. The homeowners wanted warm lighting to pair with indoor light fixtures, as well as the flow and movement of water in the pool.

The Finished Product

Smart material selection can give your new custom pool a cozy, rustic feel. The pool remodel reflects its gorgeous backyard surroundings with a natural stone waterfall and stone-inspired pool tile.

Custom Carvestone concrete overlay was mixed and textured to resemble local flagstone on the pool deck. 

We love the warm glow of the recessed lighting inside the poolside gazebo. It invites the homeowners and their guests to enjoy dinner al fresco on warm evenings.

Natural Reflections

Pebble finishes, natural stone and plenty of earth tones deliver natural curb appeal to this remodeled pool and pool deck space in The Woodlands. 

Key Considerations

• Heat and pressure resistance. The whole family uses their outdoor living space. The pool deck and poolside materials had to stay cool underfoot — and also withstand heavy foot traffic for extended family visits.
• Smart natural stone use. Natural stone is gorgeous, but it often underperforms against moisture and pool chemicals. Our design team implemented a strategy to utilize stone in sustainable, durable ways.

Homeowner Wish List

• Reflect nature. The Woodlands didn’t get its name for nothing — green space is everywhere. These homeowners wanted a swimming pool renovation that paid tribute to their township’s tree canopy and hiking trails.
• Fun for all ages. The adults wanted an elevated attached spa. The kids wanted a diving board. We were asked to provide total family fun — but make it look stylish!

The Finished Product

Nods to natural stone are everywhere, from pool coping to the elevated spa to the diving board support structure. But those elements are crafted from Carvestone and pool tile, making them far more durable at poolside. Our pool builders also used Carvestone overlay to mimic sandstone pool decking.

Blue glass tile borders the inner half of the spa, allowing light and water to dance off the pool’s edge. The diving board and spa are strategically placed to create distinct entertainment features that never interfere with one another.

The entire design is surrounded by beautiful local landscaping elements, as an enduring tribute to the community these homeowners love.

Island Breeze

Houston backyard or Caribbean resort? Decide for yourself! Jaw-dropping landscaping, a Roman pool layout and one of our most unique Carvestone pool deck overlays define this island-inspired oasis.

Key Considerations

• Mitigating clay soil. Shifting, expansive soil took its toll on previous existing pool spaces. This redesign needed a fresh start with more stable materials and structure.
• Fighting humidity. Much like the backyard’s clay soil, long-term exposure to Houston’s blazing humidity can fade, crack and degrade pool tile, coping and deck materials.

Homeowner Wish List

• Island-inspired paradise. Our clients wanted to enjoy an island paradise without ever getting on another plane. Lush landscaping and resort pool features were must-haves.
• Flagstone, but stronger. The homeowners loved the natural texture and rich color of local flagstone, but needed greater durability to withstand humidity and chlorinated water damage at poolside.

The Finished Product

We enriched the space with tropical flowers, natural stone walls and pebbles around the border to create a personal island oasis. The homeowners can escape into a private poolside paradise to beat the summer heat.

The pool deck just looks like rich brown stone. It’s actually Carvestone overlay — the homeowners benefit from extra strength, and greater reliability against chlorine, pool water and moisture damage from humidity.

Pool owners are sick of pebbles falling off and porcelain tiles on the bottom of their pool. Low-quality plaster and shoddy installation methods ruin so many inground pools long before their lifespan should end.

If you’re remodeling your pool, treat your materials like an investment. Consider modern waterline tiles, sealed Carvestone coping, and the elevated durability of blue quartz plaster and glass tile.

2. Attached Spa

It’s easy to see why so many people want a relaxing spa attached to their swimming pool. Take this design a step further and ask our contractors for a raised spa.

You’ll sit slightly above pool height, with no intrusive cold pool water and a clear separation between the spaces.

3. Stronger Pool Deck Materials

The combination of high humidity and Gulf Coast moisture creates issues for pool deck materials. Carvestone and porcelain tile are excellent choices for Houston pool deck design. 

When properly sealed, Carvestone offers strong resistance against heat and moisture damage. Porcelain is more expensive, but it’s exceptionally low maintenance and performs well against water and moisture.
