Freeform Outdoor Entertainment

This Dallas backyard space begged to be transformed into an elevated outdoor living area. Our design and contracting team set out to renovate the existing space into a freeform inground pool, raised spa and poolside bar area.

Key Project Considerations

The goal of this pool renovation project was relaxed fun for all ages. Our design team envisioned a space where guests of all ages could enjoy a custom inground pool that exuded Dallas style.

The space also needed to invite adults to relax and enjoy. A spa feature next to the pool was a good start, but the homeowners wanted an amplified “hangout” experience. They asked us for a dedicated space to grab a drink, eat some food and watch the game — all within close reach of family fun at the pool.

How We Did It

A freeform pool layout adds uniqueness and personality to this outdoor living space. Custom pool shell design added a signature Lone Star to the pool floor, which was mirrored on the covered outdoor bar structure.

Carvestone concrete overlay offers stability, durability and slip resistance on the pool deck. Light colors were used to emulate local natural stone, and heighten the heat resistance of the decking materials.

While the kids splash in the pool, adults can retreat to the sturdy covered bar island for drinks and entertainment. A raised circular spa offers a spot for poolside relaxation, with enough elevation to feel separated from the inground pool.

Quartz Waterfall

This pool renovation required upgraded material solutions both in and around the pool. The pool shell showed signs of cracks and crazing. The existing pool deck was weathered and faded, both by direct heat exposure and poor resistance to chlorine.

This project was an opportunity for the homeowners to transcend their backyard space. They wanted a resort-style pool, complete with spa and a custom water feature.

Key Project Considerations

Durability, strength, longevity. This project was a long-term investment for the homeowners — everything had to be beautiful and stay beautiful for years.

Direct sunlight played a major factor in the degradation of their original pool deck materials. The clients also requested a modern, sleek layout with features they could truly call their own.

How We Did It

Blue quartz plaster is the backbone of this renovated pool. Its combination of premium plaster and quartz aggregate provides optimal durability and refined style. 

We complemented our blue quartz plaster construction with gorgeous blue glass tile on the elevated spa and custom water feature. The tiered waterfall cascades into the pool, adding drama, levels and visual flair.

Our contractors formulated Carvestone overlay on the pool deck to resemble white Grecian marble. The deck has all the curb appeal of high-end stone, with the 5,000+ PSI pressure resistance and heat resistance of modified concrete.

Personal Spa Retreat

Space concerns shouldn’t stand between you and the pool of your dreams. Such was the case in this Dallas backyard — it wasn’t huge, but the homeowners maintained a beautiful lawn and landscaping areas.

Now, they needed a true backyard oasis to complement all their hard work.

Key Project Considerations

What this project lacked in square footage, it made up for in charm and beautifully-kept grounds. Our design team wanted to provide a dedicated space for rest and relaxation without removing a huge chunk of this lovely backyard.

The homeowners wanted a pool and spa area with form, function and style. Ample seating for guests and design features that reflected the existing space were major requests.

How We Did It

A geometric rectangular pool packs big impact in smaller spaces. Patterns and clearly defined angles create a sense of familiar comfort throughout the space — from the geometric Carvestone pool deck to the pool itself.

The raised circular spa complements the lovely circular natural stone planter on the outdoor patio. There’s plenty of comfortable outdoor seating on both ends of the pool for guests to unwind and beat the summer heat.

We installed a stabilizing concrete foundation to mitigate the natural slope of the yard towards the natural stone border wall. This pool isn’t just beautiful — it will prevent clay soil erosion on the property for years to come.

Be sure to choose light colored materials for your pool deck to reflect as much heat away from the surface as possible. Glass tile and porcelain tile offer strong heat resistance in your pool.

Shifting clay soil creates long-term problems in pools without solid foundations. Ask our contractors about Dallas-specific solutions for stable pool foundations. A slightly thicker foundation is necessary to stabilize your pool shell as your backyard swells, shifts and cracks.

The chlorine and chemicals in your pool water degrade your pool deck faster in hot weather. Be sure to seal your deck materials with chlorine-resistant sealer.
