Key Considerations

• Ventilation. An attached patio structure filled with cooking appliances gets hot quickly. The design required overhead and cross-ventilation solutions.
• Heat resistance. Materials in this galley-style outdoor kitchen had to resist high heat — from cooktops, plateware and the summer sun.

Wish List

• Complete cooking experience. When it came to selecting appliances, the answer was always “Yes, chef!” Grill, range, cooktop — they all had to be there.
• Light, yet durable. The homeowners wanted a bright, airy space packed with light, vibrant colors. But materials had to provide the strength to endure tons of outdoor cooking.

Locally quarried stone and gorgeous timbers define the entire patio space. Light-colored Carvestone was used as a concrete overlay to complement the space and keep the flooring cool near the fireplace.

Speaking of the outdoor fireplace, it’s a striking-yet-cozy gathering spot complete with outdoor-rated television and a wide hearth. Plush outdoor furniture surrounds the fire for drinks, games and conversation.

Hillside Lounge: A Clean, Cozy Patio

Key Considerations

• Proper grading. We took great care to properly level the soil and establish a compact sub-base, fortified foundation and superior underground drainage. 
• Smart lighting. Don’t underestimate the value of the recessed LED lighting on the patio ceiling. It provides tons of added light that’s easily controlled from a smartphone.

• Interaction. The homeowners valued conversation, connection, and space for tons of friends. That meant plenty of outdoor seating and a defined gathering zone.
• Colorful accents. The mission: a neutral-toned patio design that allowed plenty of opportunities to add pops of color and patterning with accents, furniture and rugs.
